On Becoming Vacation Minimalists With The Little Minimalists – Part 1

Vacation Minimalists-Part #1

The family story illustrated here is what it was like going on a vacation with my family before we were Minimalists.

One day a family decided to go on a family vacation. (This always sounds like a good idea on paper, but often goes haywire when you try to put it in action.)

Our family didn’t know this at the time, and as a result, paid no heed to the fact that it was going to be very difficult. So they went into the whole process of packing for eight people with a mood that it’s going to be easy.

The job then proves difficult when kids won’t listen to mom, kids just want to pack their own things, they don’t want to help pack for mom or dad or little siblings, and everyone is only thinking of themselves.

Oh the stress!!!

Then, Mom gets frustrated, kids are stressed, and after three hours nothing is packed. We are no closer to being ready to go on our trip!  Finally, somehow with much difficulty they manage to get everything packed and in the car, But the problems don’t stop there, oh no!

Within minutes you start to here “I can’t see out” or “my feet are squished.” Or “can you turn the radio up?” or “turn the radio down!” and so on and so forth. But the complaining doesn’t stop there.

When you get to the hotel for the night it gets much, much, worse. Everyone wants to take their own stuff in and still doesn’t want to help anyone else with their things and are wholly focused on themselves.

Things are getting hectic in here!!!!!!!

When they finally get through paying and finding the room that they are staying in, all of the kids are still wound up like tops and practically stampede over each other trying to be the first one in. The kids get so excited that the start all talking at once and then start yelling over each other to get what they want heard across, not caring about what anyone else wants.

Then, of course Mom just has to interfere for the sake of everyone else in the hotel, (or anyone on the block for that matter!) so she then has to put them all on time-out.

What a start to a family vacation! But wait, where’s Dad in all of this? He has been going back and forth to the car for about the fifth time now just trying to get the “Basics” for the night alone…. But hold on a sec…. What are the “basics”?

To be continued….
